MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman Green Announces Visit to Site of Assassination Attempt of Former President Trump, Media Availability to Follow

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Monday, July 22, at 11:30 AM ET in Butler, Pennsylvania, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green (R-TN) will lead a bipartisan visit to the site of the July 13 Trump campaign rally. Members will tour the site, followed by a media availability at 12:30 PM ET to inform the public of the Committee’s oversight investigation into the security lapses of that day. The Chairman will be joined by members of the House Homeland Security Committee and Representative Mike Kelly (PA-16).
“This Committee continues to seek answers from DHS and Secret Service for the security lapses resulting in the near-assassination of former President Trump and the tragic murder of Corey Comperatore,” Chairman Green said. “We will visit the site on Monday morning to better understand how this near-assassination took place.”

Background:
The site visit follows a letter and subsequent subpoena from Chairman Green to Secretary Mayorkas, demanding documents and information related to the USSS’ planning for the event, and DHS’ response in the immediate aftermath.
Additionally, Monday’s visit follows an invitation from Chairman Green to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle, and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray to testify publicly on Tuesday, July 23, in a hearing to examine the facts and circumstances surrounding the attempt on President Trump’s life.
Since the attempted assassination of former President Trump, the Committee has been in contact with department officials to obtain answers to the many questions the American people have. Chairman Green spoke with Director Cheatle on Sunday, July 14, and with FBI Executive Assistant Director Robert Wells on Monday, July 15. The Committee also joined a member-wide briefing call with Director Cheatle and Director Wray on Wednesday, July 17.
