Chairman Green Applauds Secretary Noem’s Move to Dismantle Quiet Skies Program, Reaffirm TSA’s Mission
June 5, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) issued the following statement applauding Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem’s decision to dismantle the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Quiet Skies program:
“I applaud Secretary Noem’s decision today to help TSA gain back the trust of the American people after the previous administration and restore the integrity of the agency. While the Quiet Skies program was intended to mitigate threats posed to U.S. aviation security, we know now that it ended up functioning solely as a political watch list and as a tool of corrupt bureaucratic favors—that is unacceptable. As chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, I look forward to taking part in the Congressional investigation requested by the secretary, along with other Committees of jurisdiction, to ensure TSA remains properly focused on protecting the traveling public amid evolving threats.”
BACKGROUND:
In March 2025, Chairman Green joined Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Rand Paul (R-KY) in sending a letter to TSA requesting a classified briefing and relevant documents related to the Biden-Harris administration’s inclusion of Tulsi Gabbard, the current director of national intelligence, in TSA’s Quiet Skies program, as well as its reported misuse of the Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS).
In September 2024, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL), chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, held a hearing to examine TSA’s FAMS operations and the future of the law enforcement agency’s mission.
