ICYMI: Chairmen Green, Pfluger, Guest Discuss the Importance of Funding President Trump’s Border Agenda with The Daily Signal and Washington Reporter
May 19, 2025
WASHINGTON D.C. — This week, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN), Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS), and Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence Chairman August Pfluger (R-TX) highlighted for The Daily Signal and the Washington Reporter the importance of providing the necessary resources for President Trump’s successful border policies by passing the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act.” House Republicans’ budget reconciliation package would provide more than $7 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement (CBP) personnel hiring, training, and incentives, as well as more than $46 billion to help complete the border wall system along the Southwest border.

Chairman Green told The Daily Signal, “Thanks to President Trump and his administration, the immediate crisis at our border has been brought under control—but our frontline law enforcement needs more resources to keep it that way. That’s why House Republicans are working to advance funding that puts the morale and mission of these dedicated frontline personnel first, including $4.1 billion for additional frontline [Customs and Border Protection] personnel and $2 billion for annual retention bonuses and signing incentives for the CBP workforce.”
Chairman Pfluger told The Daily Signal, “In stark contrast to the Left’s open-border agenda, President Trump and his administration have taken bold, decisive action—bringing illegal crossings down to historic lows and restoring control. Congress must back these efforts. That’s exactly what Homeland Security Republicans did by advancing our reconciliation bill to strengthen border security. It gives our agents the tools, resources, and authority they need to do their jobs and protect our communities. This bill sends a clear message: We’re putting the safety and security of the American people first.”

Chairman Green told the Washington Reporter, “Walls work, and Border Patrol agents agree. Frontline law enforcement has told our Committee time and time again that a completed border barrier system is essential for accomplishing their mission in the field. Even knowing this, the Biden-Harris administration spent years canceling construction of border wall that Congress had already paid for.”
“House Republicans are putting more than $46 billion toward righting this wrong.”
“Our border wall system includes a full suite of technology and infrastructure to help agents safely and effectively combat drug and human smuggling between ports of entry. And make no mistake, a completed Southwest border wall system will leave a long-lasting legacy, one that any new Democrat administration can’t destroy. We must finish the work of President Trump’s first administration and finish the wall — fast.”
Chairman Guest told the Washington Reporter, “[Reconciliation funding is] vital to ensuring President Trump can keep his most important promise to the American people: securing the border.”
“Since President Trump entered office in January of 2025, our border security has increased, the flow of illegal drugs has dropped dramatically, and illegal border crossings have plummeted to levels not seen in modern history.”
“The success of the Trump administration’s leadership at our borders cannot be underestimated. Physical barriers play a critical role in ensuring that our borders are secure. Completed sections of the border wall have been a proven, effective tool for Border Patrol agents to prevent illegal crossings.”
Background:
Last month, the Committee advanced budget reconciliation recommendations to fund the Trump administration’s border security efforts by providing resources to complete the border barrier system, enhance the technology at our borders, and hire and retain U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel.
Chairman Green published an op-ed for RealClearPolitics, detailing how House Republicans will fund President Trump’s successful border security efforts for years to come through the budget reconciliation process. Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO) penned an op-ed for Newsweek, highlighting Homeland Republicans’ efforts to keep our communities safe by providing resources for CBP. Rep. Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) penned an op-ed for the Washington Examiner, discussing the urgent need to finish the border wall system through this funding.
It is vital that Congress ensure funding to make President Trump’s successful policies permanent, because they are working. Last week, the House Committee on Homeland Security released its newest “Border Brief” factsheet, detailing the April CBP data. Last month, Southwest border apprehensions dropped 93%, and nationwide border encounters dropped 88% compared to April 2024.
