Chairman Green Joins “Mornings with Maria” to Discuss the Committee Markup for Border Security Funding, Trump’s First 100 Days

April 29, 2025

“President Trump has done exactly what we needed to do”

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– This morning, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) joined Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria” to discuss how House Republicans will fund President Trump’s border security efforts for years to come through the budget reconciliation process. The Committee’s recommendations, which will be marked up this morning, include funding for the border barrier system, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel, enhanced technology at the border, and more. Read Chairman Green’s op-ed in RealClearPolitics, detailing the Committee effort to provide resources for frontline law enforcement to continue accomplishing their vital missions. Tune in live to the Committee’s markup on these recommendations here.

President Trump accomplished more to secure the border in his first 100 days than Joe Biden did in four years—largely because he actually chose to enforce the laws he swore to uphold. Illegal crossings at our Southwest border in March dropped by more than 90 percent compared to the previous year.

On the Committee’s efforts to fund President Trump’s border security efforts and bolster CBP:

“There’s a breakdown between the physical wall, the people, and the technology. And what we’re really doing is all of it. We’re adding people; we’re giving them bonuses for retention; we’re spending a ton of money on the actual physical wall––but it’s not just a wall. There’s technology; there are sensors; there are cameras all along that wall. This is a very elaborate––in fact, Maria, to be completely honest, Congress for decades has tried to codify border security––a secure Southwest border. We are going to start that process today, passing this reconciliation bill out of the Homeland Security Committee.”

On President Trump’s first 100 days of success and Democrats’ desperate attempts to change the subject:

“I think it’s fantastic and, yes [the border] is absolutely secure. President Trump has done exactly what we needed to do. He’s returning people, he’s detaining people––that’s the biggest disincentive for the mass waves of people coming into the country that occurred under the Biden administration. Look, they created the migration crisis themselves by their ridiculous policies. So, President Trump shut the door, and [illegal aliens] stopped coming.”

“The Trump derangement syndrome is off the rails. The problem with the Democrats right now is, basically, their policy, their agenda is for street criminals, violent criminals––to defund ICE and law enforcement… I mean, they don’t know a good person from a bad person. And they haven’t for decades, so I think the more they get loud on this, the more they double down on their anti-DOGE rhetoric and all that, it just shows the American people who they really are. Going down to El Salvador and triumphing a criminal…I mean that’s their hero.”
