MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman Garbarino Announces Hearing to Assess State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program

March 31, 2025

WASHINGTON D.C. ––Today, Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), chairman of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection, announced a hearing for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, to assess the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP), which is administered by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Members will also explore opportunities for Congress, in partnership with the Trump administration, to ensure the preparedness and resiliency of state and local governments against cyberattacks.

“As the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program is set to expire this September, Congress must assess the program’s efficacy and determine whether it is fulfilling its objective: to bolster the cybersecurity posture of state and local governments, which are on the frontlines of our nation’s cyber defenses,” Chairman Garbarino said. “Although state and local governments are vital to ensuring the resilience of our nation’s critical infrastructure, they often struggle to attract qualified cyber talent and lack resources to invest in cybersecurity. I look forward to diving deeper into SLCGP’s successes and challenges, and exploring ways state, local, tribal, and territorial governments can continue to strengthen their preparedness against rapidly evolving cyber threats.”
