Chairman Green Issues Statement on New Border Patrol Chief
January 21, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) issued the following statement on U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks:
“After four years of the Biden administration tying the hands of our brave Border Patrol agents, President Trump will give our agents the tools they need to dismantle the cartels and stop dangerous public safety threats from entering our communities.
“As a new day for border security begins, no one is more qualified to restore the essential mission and morale of our men and women in green than Michael Banks. After decades of courageous service for the U.S. Border Patrol, Banks showed the great State of Texas how a real ‘border czar’ operates.
“Outgoing Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens is leaving behind a legacy of committed service and courageous honesty in this role during a chaotic administration. I wish him all the best in his upcoming retirement.
“Alongside Chief Banks, I look forward to empowering our frontline law enforcement to do what they do best in the field––defend our sovereign borders and protect the American people.”
