MEDIA ADVISORY: Committee Markup for Legislation to Enhance Border Security, Counter Transnational Repression

April 5, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The House Committee on Homeland Security will conduct a full committee markup Wednesday, April 10, 2024, to consider H.R. 5302H.R. 7404H.R. 7443H.R. 7433H.R. 7439, and H.R. 7832.

These bipartisan pieces of legislation would rename an Air and Marine Operations (AMO) Marine Unit within Customs and Border Protection in honor of a fallen AMO agent, require annual reports on counter-illicit cross-border tunnel operations, require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to deploy new, innovative, and advanced technologies to enhance border security, and help counter acts of transnational repression on U.S. soil. These measures reflect Republican commitments to secure the nation’s borders, while safeguarding American values of free speech and human rights in the face of foreign malign influence, and while upholding the rule of law and holding foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party and the Iranian regime accountable.
