Ranking Member Rogers on Terrorist Attack in Austria

WASHINGTON – Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), House Homeland Security Committee ranking member, released the statement below on yesterday’s terrorist attack in Vienna, Austria. Austria’s Interior Minister Karl Nehammer confirmed the suspect had tried to join Islamic State jihadists in 2019 and was sentenced to prison. He was released after serving part of his sentence.

“Yesterday’s attack in Vienna is a reminder that the fight against terrorism continues,” Rogers said. “The U.S. and our allies must continue to work together to thwart terrorists’ ability to recruit individuals to their twisted ideology and eliminate groups with malicious intent.

“I want our friends in Austria to know that my family and I are praying for them during this time of mourning.”
