MEDIA ADVISORY: Higgins Announces Subcommittee Hearing on Fentanyl Smuggling by Cartels
Committee begins phase two of investigation into Secretary Mayorkas’ failure to secure our borders
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced a hearing next Wednesday, July 12, at 2:00 PM ET, to examine the role of Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs), particularly the Mexican drug cartels, in trafficking illicit fentanyl into the United States. This hearing will launch the second phase of the House Committee on Homeland Security’s full-scale oversight investigation into Secretary Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty that has led to the most devastating crisis at the Southwest border in our nation’s history.
“The reckless open border policies set by President Biden and Mayorkas have greatly benefited the Mexican cartels,” said Congressman Higgins. “The cartels quickly learned to outmaneuver the system, and with the help of the Chinese Community Party, they have smuggled an unprecedented amount of fentanyl, taken a record number of American lives, brought in billion-dollar profits, and have torn families apart. Secretary Mayorkas’ blatant disregard for the security and sanctity of the American people has wounded our great nation deeply. This Subcommittee will ensure that we hold Mayorkas accountable for his dereliction of duty.”
