MEDIA ADVISORY: Bishop Announces Subcommittee Hearing on Left-Wing Violence

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability Chairman Dan Bishop (R-NC) announced a hearing during National Police Week on the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) failure to adequately prepare and support local law enforcement organizations in the wake of violence perpetrated by left-wing agitators, as well as how anti-police rhetoric has negatively impacted law enforcement’s ability to carry out their mission and ensure the safety of our communities.

“The left-wing lawlessness Americans experienced during the summer of 2020 was, unfortunately, only the beginning of a long season of political violence and intimidation. We’ve now seen this violence perpetrated against law enforcement as well as brave Americans, like Riley Gaines, who dare to exercise their freedom of speech. This increasing political violence cannot remain unchecked,” Chairman Bishop said. “Next week, House Republicans will fight to ensure our local law enforcement finally receives the support they need to maintain law and order in the face of violent far-left extremism.”
