ICYMI: Meijer Leads Effort to Increase Awareness of Human Trafficking

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In case you missed it, Rep. Peter Meijer’s (R-MI), Ranking Member of the Oversight, Management, and Accountability Subcommittee, legislation, H.R. 2795, the DHS Blue Campaign Enhancement Act, was recently signed into law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022. This legislation increases awareness of human trafficking indicators and prevents cases from being overlooked by law enforcement and the public.

“Human trafficking is modern day slavery, and we must work to end this serious global problem,” said Ranking Member Katko. “January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month. I applaud Ranking Member Meijer for his leadership on this critical piece of legislation when it is a key time for us to bring awareness to combatting human trafficking. It is crucial that we help increase the public and law enforcement’s ability to recognize these underreported crimes. This bill brings us one step closer to that end.”

“The DHS Blue Campaign Enhancement Act will strengthen law enforcement and the public’s ability to recognize and respond to signs of human trafficking. These heinous crimes are vastly underreported and improving our ability to spot the signs will save lives. We must utilize every tool available to put an end to human trafficking. This legislation is a critical step towards that goal, and I am proud that it is now the law of the land,” said Ranking Member Meijer.
