Chairman Green Announces Hearing With Secretary Mayorkas on the Biden Administration’s FY 2024 Budget Proposal

“Contrary to what the Biden administration says, this proposal couldn’t be further from investing in border security.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – TodayHouse Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) announced a full committee hearing next week to examine the Biden administration’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget proposal for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which will include testimony from DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“In its woefully inadequate budget request, the Biden administration is finally saying the quiet part out loud. During a historic crisis at our nation’s borders, the Biden administration is not offering any meaningful solutions to curb the surge of illegal aliens, known gotaways, or illicit drugs, like fentanyl, from flooding across our borders,” Chairman Green said. “While the Department of Homeland Security’s objective is supposed to be protecting the American people, this administration’s budget is instead focused on forcing U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel to process illegal aliens faster into the interior of the United States, only worsening this self-made humanitarian and national security crisis. Contrary to what the Biden administration says, this proposal couldn’t be further from investing in border security.

“Furthermore, this proposal is an insult to every American as it fails to take many of our most pressing national security threats seriously,” Chairman Green continued. “Apart from our nation’s wide-open border, this budget fails to prioritize our frontline Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel over highly paid headquarters bureaucrats or adequately invest in critical security technology, and it provides scant details on newly-proposed cybersecurity programs at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), our nation’s risk advisor. But while this administration fails to uphold its constitutional obligation to protect our country, the Committee on Homeland Security will demand answers from Secretary Mayorkas and work to redirect DHS’s mission back on track.”
