A lifelong Long Islander, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Andrew R. Garbarino has dedicated his life to family and community, proudly representing New York’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2021. Before running for federal office, he received his bachelor’s degree from The George Washington University and his Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University.
Chairman Garbarino has served on the Homeland Security Committee since first entering Congress, previously serving as the Republican leader on the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee.
As a member of a community forever marked by the September 11th attacks, Chairman Garbarino’s work is guided by the shared commitment to ‘Never Forget.’ He believes that safeguarding the homeland is an American imperative and the Committee’s foremost duty. As America’s adversaries, homegrown violent extremists, and foreign and domestic terrorists work to threaten our way of life, combating national security threats remains a top priority for the Committee under his leadership. In this effort, Chairman Garbarino has fought to support the work of law enforcement and first responders who serve on the frontlines of the homeland security mission, from local police and firefighters to U.S. Border Patrol agents.
As America’s enemies and opportunistic cybercriminals increasingly weaponize cyberspace, Chairman Garbarino has been the leading voice in Congress on the need to bolster our nation’s cyber defenses. He continues to fight for ways to strengthen our collective defense, such as protecting the critical infrastructure that Long Islanders and Americans rely on, ensuring our cybersecurity workforce has the skills and staffing needed to defend the nation’s networks, and harmonizing duplicative cybersecurity regulations that unnecessarily burden businesses.
Representing a district deeply impacted by Hurricane Sandy and having served on the Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Chairman Garbarino has seen firsthand the challenges facing those working to further community resilience, response, and recovery. At the time, Hurricane Sandy was one of the most devastating natural disasters in our nation’s history, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring every community in America is ready when disaster strikes.
Along with the House Committee on Homeland Security, Chairman Garbarino is proud to serve on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Ethics.
