“The American People See Right Through This”: Homeland Republicans Sound the Alarm on Democrats’ Shutdown, Threats Against Law Enforcement

October 14, 2025

WASHINGTON D.C. –– Last week, Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology Chairman Dale Strong (R-AL) joined NewsNation’s “Morning in America,” Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS) joined Sirius XM’s “David Webb Show,” and Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO) joined Sirius XM’s “Stacy on the Right” to discuss the homeland security implications of Democrats’ government shutdown and heightened attacks on law enforcement.

Watch Subcommittee Chairman Strong’s full NewsNation interview.

On the impacts of Democrats’ government shutdown, Subcommittee Chairman Strong said:

“The ones that I’ve talked to understand that the Democrats want to create chaos and they’re doing it through a government shutdown––and they’re sick of it. I want to thank each of them for their service to this country… The last thing they should have to be worrying about is [being] able to make their car payment, their utility bill, being sure they’ve got the utilities on in their apartments and homes.

“Just like everybody else, they go to work every day. You look at it––they’ve done their job. The Southern border, we don’t have an issue at the Southern border because of what they’ve done… We’re going to keep pushing, but I’ll tell you this right here: It’s time for Chuck Schumer to come up with an exit ramp because the American people see right through this.”

On the government shutdown’s impact on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel, Subcommittee Chairman Guest said:

“If you look at the major agencies within the Department of Homeland Security––so you take Customs and Border Protection, ICE, TSA…and Secret Service—95 percent of those employees have all been deemed essential employees, which means they are coming to work each and every day. They are performing their job, but they will not be paid until the government is reopened… We need to be supporting law enforcement, particularly at a time when we see increased threats.”

On heightened attacks against law enforcement, Subcommittee Chairman Guest said:

“In Dallas, we saw an ICE facility come under fire. And back in July, there were a dozen people who were arrested in Texas for shooting at an ICE facility and actually striking a local law enforcement officer who responded there to the scene. So, we see the increase in attacks on our federal law enforcement who are working so hard to do their job, and now we’re asking them to do that job without pay. I think that is wrong, and I think we need to find a way to support both our federal law enforcement officers and our military personnel who are placing themselves in harm’s way each and every day.”

On the threats facing federal law enforcement officers, Rep. Evans said:

“We just saw what happened [in Chicago] last week where you had Border Patrol and other federal agents who were surrounded, rammed by protesters––by the way, ramming police officers, you know, that can kill cops… This is potentially lethal force being used against federal law enforcement in Chicago who are just doing their job. When they call for backup, now you’ve got the mayor of Chicago and the program he runs where Chicago police aren’t allowed to go back up federal law enforcement officers, and we’re seeing that all around the country in Democrat run cities and states.”

On Democrats’ shutdown and the priorities of the American people, Rep. Evans said:

“The vast majority of Americans like law enforcement. They like safe communities. They understand the need for border security. They understand the need to get violent cartel members, criminals, gang bangers, drug dealers out of our communities… Americans just want to have safe communities, affordability and be able to fly without worrying that the air traffic controller is working a double shift and not getting paid for it–– this [shutdown] is not popular with the American people.”
