Chairman Green Reflects on House Homeland’s Accomplishments in 118th Congress
December 23, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement reflecting on the work the Committee accomplished in the 118th Congress:
“As I reflect on the hard work of this Committee and its members in the 118th Congress, I’m grateful for all we accomplished. We exposed the true extent of the Biden-Harris border crisis and crafted the strongest, most conservative border security legislation in the history of Congress with the Secure the Border Act––setting a strong foundation for our work to secure the border come January.
“We held the official responsible for this catastrophe accountable to the American people by conducting a thorough investigation into Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, resulting in his historic impeachment in the House of Representatives. Securing our borders will remain a top priority in Washington alongside President Trump and his border security team.
“But that’s not all. The House Homeland Security Committee worked to tackle a myriad of other threats facing our nation. Amid growing threats in cyberspace, we brought in industry and agency leaders to help build a path forward for the collective defense of government and private sector networks, all while conducting oversight to ensure CISA succeeds in its critical infrastructure resilience mission.
“We worked to enhance our national security posture by investigating the CCP’s growing malign influence in the homeland, conducting oversight of the Coast Guard to maintain a strong U.S. presence in the Arctic, and introducing bipartisan legislation to help law enforcement mitigate hostile drone use in our skies.
“Every agency within DHS has a no-fail mission. That’s why we held agencies like FEMA and the Secret Service accountable when natural disasters struck our communities and threats against elected officials reached a breaking point. Lastly, we worked to root out abuse of Americans’ civil liberties and fight government overreach.
“This work is only beginning. I believe we face one of the most dangerous times in our nation’s history. When we return to Washington in January and look forward to new leadership in the White House, we will hit the ground running alongside new and returning members of this Committee to fulfill our commitment to the American people.”
