April 24, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement on the tragic passing of Committee member, Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. (D-NJ):
“Our Committee is heartbroken for the entire Payne family in this moment. His passing is an unimaginable loss for his loved ones, and devastating news to all members of our Committee. Today, Camie and I are praying that his wife, Beatrice, and their three children find peace and strength during this difficult time. I got to know Donald not just as a congressman, but as a friend, having served with him on the Congressional Colorectal Cancer Caucus focused on helping men and women overcome this pervasive form of cancer. His legacy will be one of a tireless commitment to public service and fierce advocacy for his constituents for over a decade in Congress.”
