WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) introduced the Homeland Heroes Pay Act. This legislation ensures frontline employees of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are paid in the event of a lapse in appropriations.

“The dedicated men and women of CBP and ICE work day and night to protect the homeland amid unprecedented chaos. It’s critical that we protect their paychecks in the event of a lapse in government funding. Instead of admitting that the open-borders strategy of the past 33 months has been an abject disaster, congressional Democrats simply want to spend more money to double down on that same strategy,” Chairman Green said. “Those on the frontlines of the border crisis shouldn’t be forced to bear the cost just because congressional Democrats refuse to pass an appropriations bill that works to secure the border. There is no reason this legislation should not be passed unanimously and immediately.”

Cosponsors of the Homeland Heroes Pay Act include House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Clay Higgins (R-LA), Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL), Rep. Dale Strong (R-AL), Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-TX), and Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ).
