WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement in remembrance of the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001:

“Twenty-two years ago, our nation was changed forever. Still today, there are no words that can fully express the unspeakable sorrow felt by the victims’ families as they mourn their loss, or the pain that has gripped our country for over two decades. Forces of evil attempted to destroy our values and weaken our love for the liberty that defines this nation. They failed—because American resiliency knows no bounds.

“I wore the uniform of this nation in the United States Army on 9/11, and subsequently, like many others, deployed to the Middle East in our war against terror. Today, as chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I am similarly committed to the security of our homeland, working with my colleagues to ensure this kind of attack never happens again. Despite their best efforts, our enemies will not weaken our commitment to freedom and self-government. We remain resilient in support of these values that cannot—and will not—be diminished.
 
“Today, I join every American in mourning the loss of 2,977 innocent lives on 9/11, in New York City, Shanksville, and Arlington. We will never forget.”
