Katko, Garbarino Applaud CISA on Launch of First-Ever State & Local Cybersecurity Grant Program

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Katko, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, and Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Innovation, released the following statement in response to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) announcement of its first-ever cybersecurity grant program for state, local, and territorial (SLT) governments across the country.

“Securing our cyber landscape across the Nation starts with risk mitigation at the local level. In an interconnected world, every touchpoint is vulnerable with the potential for debilitating and cascading impacts across critical infrastructure sectors. This new grant program authorized by the bipartisan State and Local Cybersecurity Improvement Act is a powerful addition to Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) toolbox to help communities in New York and across the country improve their overall cybersecurity posture. Every organization, big and small, should act as though they will be the next victim of a cyberattack and prepare accordingly. Leveraging the many resources from CISA for smart investments in risk mitigation is an important first step. We applaud CISA for leading this call to action at the local level and recognize the great potential for state and local organizations to significantly strengthen our overall national security.”
