Katko, Turner Demand Answers on DHS “Disinformation Governance Board”

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, demanded answers from the Department of Homeland Security on the creation of the “Disinformation Governance Board” and its questionable choice to lead the ill-defined governance board.

In a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Katko and Turner wrote, “Given the complete lack of information about this new initiative and the potential serious consequences of a government entity identifying and responding to ‘disinformation,’ we have serious concerns about the activities of this new Board, particularly under Ms. Jankowicz’s leadership.  Among other things, she stated publicly that the Hunter Biden laptop should be ‘view[ed] as a Trump campaign product.’  Following Elon Musk’s recent purchase of Twitter, Ms. Jankowicz tweeted: ‘I shudder to think about if free speech absolutists were taking over more platforms.”

In preparation for Fiscal Year 2023 funding decisions, the Committee leaders are demanding full transparency into the need for the entity and the justification for the appointment of Nina Jankowicz as Executive Director of the Disinformation Governance Board.
