Katko on the Appointment of New Homeland Security Advisory Council Members
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement in response to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas’ appointment of new Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) Members, after dismantling the previous HSAC:
“The HSAC is a critical body of expert, bipartisan thought-leaders, with the significant responsibility of providing strategic and actionable counsel to the Secretary and DHS senior leadership on a range of homeland security issues. Nearly a year ago, Secretary Mayorkas chose to dismantle the previous HSAC and remove the well-respected homeland security leaders who have dedicated their careers to strengthening our homeland security posture. However, I am pleased the Department took a thoughtful approach to reconstituting the HSAC. I believe that the HSAC appointees will uphold their duty to provide a knowledgeable, diverse set of perspectives to combat the evolving threats of today and tomorrow.”
