| WASHINGTON – Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee and senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, traveled to Latin America last week as part of a Congressional delegation focusing on homeland and national security and trade issues in the region. House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) led the delegation that traveled to Guatemala, Panama, Argentina and Peru.
“Regional dialogue within the Americas is essential to advancing U.S. national security interests, especially given recent migration flows from Central America and the rise of China in the region,” Rogers said. “I heard from our men and women on the ground in Honduras and Panama about joint efforts to address irregular migration and stop drugs and other contraband from ever reaching the United States. As Russia and China seek to increase their influence in the region, supporting our allies through cooperation and trade is essential.” The delegation also included: Reps. Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), Amata Radewagen (R-A.S.), Jenniffer González-Colón (R-P.R.), Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.), Denver Riggleman (R-Va.) and Michael Waltz (R-Fla.).
