Rogers Applauds DHS Terrorism and Targeted Violence Strategic Framework
September 20, 2019
WASHINGTON – Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, today released a statement after Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan announced the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Framework for Combating Terrorism and Targeted Violence.
“This strategy recognizes the continued threat of foreign terrorist organizations to the homeland, as well as opportunities for DHS to utilize existing programs, knowledge and resources to address domestic terrorism and other threats of violence while protecting privacy and civil rights. It is centered around existing DHS core missions, including intelligence and information sharing, border security, and prevention and preparedness.
“Additional outreach and education to state and local partners, especially the National Network of Fusion Centers, on domestic terrorism and threats of mass violence is a key element, as is increased collaboration with foreign partners. Members of Congress and the public have been demanding better data collection and public reporting on homeland threats and I appreciate that DHS has made this an central part of the strategy. This is an important step forward and it will be vital that DHS initiatives be coordinated with other federal efforts.”
