MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman Garbarino Announces Hearing on Threats to Law Enforcement
November 25, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY) announced a full Committee hearing for Wednesday, December 3, to examine the alarming rise in anti-law enforcement sentiment sweeping across the nation and its direct correlation to a surge in threatening behavior and violent attacks against law enforcement officers and personnel.
In September, a gunman opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, leading to the death of two individuals in custody and injuries to two others. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the attack as “an act of targeted violence” against law enforcement. In October, DHS uncovered gangs in Mexico placed bounties on the lives of ICE officers and senior U.S. Border Patrol agents. State and local law enforcement are also impacted by these rising threats. On July 7, an individual armed with a rifle and tactical gear attacked a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, injuring multiple officers, including an officer from the McAllen Police Department.

“It is unacceptable that the brave men and women of law enforcement, who risk their lives daily to secure the homeland and protect the public, are facing targeted violence from radicals and international gangs on U.S. soil,” Chairman Garbarino said. “With assaults against officers skyrocketing and heightened threats of political violence across America, Congress must support the mission of law enforcement and ensure our federal agencies have the tools, resources, and partnerships needed to keep these dedicated professionals safe on the job as they work to protect our communities.”
