Homeland Republicans Applaud Rep. Garbarino’s Appointment as Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security

July 24, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– This week, House Republicans selected Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) to serve as chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security. Chairman Garbarino serves as the seventh member to hold this position since the Committee was first established as a Select Committee in 2002 and later constituted as a Standing Committee in 2005. Chairman Garbarino has served on the Committee since entering office in the 117th Congress and is the outgoing chairman of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection.

“I am honored to have earned the trust and confidence of my colleagues to lead the House Committee on Homeland Security. As a lifelong New Yorker and representative of a district shaped by 9/11, I understand the stakes of this responsibility. ‘Never forget’ is more than a slogan. It is a commitment I have carried with me throughout my entire adult life and one that will continue to drive my work as Chairman,” Chairman Garbarino said. “We have serious work ahead of us. Securing the border, confronting terrorism, strengthening our cybersecurity, and hardening our national defenses are all critical to keeping Americans safe. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to take on these challenges and deliver on the mission the American people expect us to carry out.”

“Congratulations to my friend and colleague, Chairman Garbarino. Congressman Peter King of New York’s second district was chairman when I first entered Congress after the September 11 attacks, and I am confident Andrew will carry on his legacy of strong leadership on this committee,” Vice Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) said. “I look forward to working with him to continue advancing border security efforts and protecting our homeland.”

“I am looking forward to working with Chairman Garbarino to continue to secure our border and advance President Trump’s America First Agenda,” Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS) said.

“I want to congratulate Chairman Garbarino on his new role leading the Homeland Security Committee. I look forward to working alongside him as we continue to strengthen our national security and confront the threats facing our homeland,” Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security Chairman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said. “As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, I remain focused on strengthening the security of our ports, airports, and supply chains, and on protecting the critical infrastructure that keeps our nation moving.”

“Congratulations to my colleague, Andrew Garbarino, on his selection as the next Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security. His appointment reflects a strong commitment to securing our borders, strengthening cybersecurity, and protecting our critical infrastructure,” Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence Chairman August Pfluger (R-TX) said. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we have made historic strides in national security, and I am confident that Chairman Garbarino will continue that momentum to meet today’s evolving threats. As Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, I look forward to working alongside him in our shared mission to safeguard the American people and defend the Homeland.”

“After 9/11, DHS was founded to keep Americans safe. Today, as our homeland faces evolving threats, we need strong and thoughtful leadership in Congress to ensure our national security is never compromised,” Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) said. “As a retired Master Chief, naval cryptologist, and representative of the largest border district in the nation, I have full faith in my friend and colleague Rep. Andrew Garbarino to meet and exceed those expectations as Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security. I look forward to working under his leadership.”

“As a native New Yorker who witnessed the devastation of 9/11, Congressman Garbarino understands the stakes at risk when it comes to our homeland security,” Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology Chairman Dale Strong (R-AL) said. “I congratulate him on being selected as the Chairman for the committee, and I look forward to working with him to safeguard the homeland and support President Trump’s border security agenda.”

“I look forward to working with Chairman Garbarino to ensure the Homeland Security Committee and the Oversight Subcommittee thoroughly fulfill the promise championed by President Trump to secure the border effectively and efficiently, deliver swift accountability to those who threaten our country and people, and send a strong signal that if you break our laws, there will be consequences—not coddling,” Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability Chairman Josh Brecheen (R-OK) said.

“Our border is much more secure today than it was just six months ago, thanks to strong policies from President Trump and our Republican leaders. Congressman Andrew Garbarino will undoubtedly continue this effort to protect our nation from physical and cyber threats as Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security,” Rep. Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) said. “I congratulate him on his selection and look forward to working with him on the committee.”

“I have no doubt that Congressman Andrew Garbarino will be an excellent Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security,” Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) said. “He has been a powerful voice for strengthening our cyber capabilities and a close ally in the fight against the Chinese Communist Party. I look forward to restoring American sovereignty and mitigating threats to our Homeland by his side.”

“I congratulate Congressman Garbarino on his new role as Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee,”
Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO) said. “As a former cop and veteran, I share his commitment to protecting the homeland and ensuring public safety is a top priority. I look forward to continuing our work together to put America first, secure our nation, and support those who defend it.”

“Chairman Garbarino is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the threats we face and the resolve to confront them head-on,” Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA) said.  “I’m confident he will lead the Homeland Security Committee with strength and clarity, and I look forward to continuing our work together to protect the American people.”
