May 2, 2025
WASHINGTON—Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green, MD (R-TN) issued the following statement on the unexpected passing of former Committee fellow Madeline “Maddie” Kleinschmidt. Chairman Green also recently honored Maddie’s memory during official Committee proceedings.
“The news of Maddie’s passing is devastating. Maddie brought joy and humility to her role, and a willingness to jump into any task assigned to her. She was beloved by all her teammates, and devoted to the important work of the Committee. I am saddened for her family and loved ones, and will be praying for them all in the days ahead.”
About Maddie: Maddie was a remarkable individual who made a lasting impression on the House Homeland team. She joined the Committee as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Public Policy fellow in August 2022, working under then-Ranking Member John Katko. She continued her service with Chairman Green on the Border Security Subcommittee until completing her fellowship in July 2023. Upon leaving the Committee, Maddie was selected as a Fulbright Scholar.
