Chairman Green on Biden-Harris’ Improper Expansion of Access to CBP One App: “We All Know Why They Are Doing This”

August 16, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced it will increase access to the CBP One app for otherwise-inadmissible aliens to schedule appointments at ports of entry and be released into the United States. Previously, individuals had to be in northern or central Mexico in order to schedule an appointment through the app, but with this policy change, non-Mexican citizens will be able to access the app in southern Mexico, and Mexican citizens will be able to use it anywhere in the country.

In August 2023, the Washington Examiner’s Anna Giaritelli published a groundbreaking scoop showing that the criminal cartels had hijacked the CBP One app using virtual private networks (VPNs), and were exploiting the app to make even more money by scheduling appointments for migrants outside the geographical range. In October 2023, the Committee obtained documents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) showing that between Jan. 12, 2023, and Sept. 30, 2023, 95.8 percent of those who scheduled appointments through the app were released into the interior, including 94 percent of Russian nationals, 93 percent of Afghan nationals, and 88 percent of Chinese nationals.

“President Biden and Vice President Harris have doubled down on the unlawful CBP One mass-parole program to further their open-borders agenda. This is the opposite of sound immigration enforcement. In reality, we all know why they are doing this—massive numbers of illegal aliens showing up at the Southwest border is politically embarrassing for Biden and his ‘border czar’ Harris, and optics, not sound policy, are what drive this administration. Individuals let in under this scheme are inadequately vetted, and who knows how many will go on to victimize American citizens once they are in the interior. But, of course, Biden and Harris could not care less as long as it advances their anti-enforcement agenda. And make no mistake, the cartels will find a way to profit from it.”
