MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman Green Announces Hearing Featuring U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Linda Fagan
July 19, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) announced a hearing for Wednesday, June 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET to examine the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) role in protecting the homeland. This hearing will feature witness testimony from USCG Commandant Admiral Linda L. Fagan.
“The Coast Guard plays a unique role in defending and upholding our national sovereignty,” Chairman Green said.“From interdicting the cartels in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific to standing up to gray-zone aggression by Russia and the People’s Republic of China in the Arctic and Indo-Pacific, the Coast Guard’s mission set is expanding––and so are its challenges. As the Coast Guard continues to address critical threats facing our homeland, it is vital that both Congress and the Service prioritize manpower and resource needs. I look forward to hearing from Admiral Fagan about the Coast Guard’s challenges and goals, including rising cybersecurity threats and the recapitalization of its cutter fleet. Congress must ensure the men and women of the Coast Guard have what they need to succeed in their maritime security mission and keep our homeland secure.”
