MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman Gimenez Announces Hearing on Combatting China’s Maritime Grey-Zone Aggression
May 29, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– This week, Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security Chairman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) announced a hearing for Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM ET, to examine ways the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Coast Guard can combat growing maritime threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“One of the greatest threats to U.S. maritime security today is from the Chinese Communist Party, which continues to test the Biden administration and our allies through acts of grey-zone aggression in the Pacific,” Chairman Gimenez said. “From conducting illegal fishing operations to participating in naval exercises with Russia in our Exclusive Economic Zone, the CCP is attempting to impose their authoritarian vision on the high seas by disregarding international law and undermining national sovereignty. It is important that we understand the full extent of the threat that Communist China poses in the maritime domain, and I look forward to hearing from the panel of experts on this threat.”
