MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman D’Esposito Announces Hearing to Assess DHS’ Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology Chairman Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY) announced a hearing on March 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM ET, to review the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office.

The mission of the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office is to safeguard America from chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats by providing training, exercises, equipment, and operational support to stakeholders and partners nationwide,” Chairman D’Esposito said. “It is important that we examine the CWMD Office so it can fulfill its mission and enable federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments to detect and prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction on U.S. soil. I look forward to learning more about the CWMD Office’s strategies and partnerships, and how Congress can ensure the Office is doing its job effectively.”
