PHOTOS: Katko Meets with NYPD, FDNY, U.S. Coast Guard
NEW YORK, NY – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, met last week with members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), New York City Fire Department (FDNY), and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Sector New York.
NYPD
Ranking Member Katko, Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) held a roundtable discussion with law enforcement officials to discuss issues facing NYPD, including rising crime, training and recruitment concerns, and budgetary challenges. Participants included New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea and leadership from the city’s police unions.
FDNY
Ranking Member Katko visited a New York City firehouse, toured the Three Forty Three fireboat (purchased with Port Security Grant Program funds), and learned how FDNY works to safeguard the New York Harbor and surrounding area.
USCG
Ranking Member Katko met with U.S. Coast Guard Captain Zeita Merchant, Deputy Sector Commander for Sector New York. Sector New York is the largest Coast Guard operational field command on the East Coast and regularly supports trade through the Port of New York/New Jersey, among other critical homeland security missions.
