Startling Revelations From Secretary Mayorkas Hearing Pose More Questions Than Answers

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released a recap of stunning revelations from yesterday’s Committee on Homeland Security hearing with DHS Secretary Mayorkas highlighting how the Biden Administration’s open border policies have created absolute disorder at the southern border.

Testimony from a Cabinet Secretary should instill confidence and answer the critical questions facing our nation’s homeland security posture. Yesterday’s hearing accomplished none of that. Committee members left with more questions and more concerns about the crisis at the southern border and the failure of the Biden Administration to put forth commonsense solutions to secure our borders and protect Americans.

Of note, the hearing revealed:

• Not everyone being processed at the southern border is being tested for COVID
• Terrorists have indeed been trying to illegally cross the border
• The Administration shockingly has no intention of resuming wall construction funded by previous bipartisan Congressional appropriations
• The Administration does not know how many migrants have been released into the interior

For months, Homeland Security Republicans, led by Ranking Member Katko, have warned of a dangerous surge in encounters at the border and urged the Biden Administration to reconsider sweeping policy rollbacks.

The time for excuses, misdirection, and sound bites is over. This Administration must admit its mistakes and come to the table to work with Republicans on the sensible solutions the American people demand.
