Katko: This is Not Humane or Effective Management of the Southern Border
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on reports that 50 migrants were found dead in a tractor-trailer in San Antonio as part of a human smuggling operation.
“I am deeply disturbed and saddened by the reports that 50 people lost their lives as a direct result of human smuggling operations on the southwest border. This tragedy should serve as a stark reminder to all Americans that there is nothing humane about the Biden administration’s decision to abdicate its responsibility to secure our borders and instead cultivate an atmosphere of lawlessness. This Administration’s policies act as a significant pull factor for the record-breaking number of migrants encountered at the southwest border and provide an opportunity for cartels, traffickers, and human smugglers to profit from the resulting chaos. Unfortunately, tragedies like the one we are seeing in San Antonio will only become more prevalent as President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas allow this nightmare at the southwest border to rage on. Human smuggling is one of the most lucrative businesses right now thanks to President Biden’s weak approach to the border and Secretary Mayorkas’ refusal to enforce critical policies such as Title 42 and the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP). It’s time President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas open their eyes to the disaster they have created in our country before more people lose their lives.”
