“Startling Stats 7.0” Highlight Biden’s Dangerous Record Breaking Border Policies

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released the latest edition of Homeland Republicans’ “Startling Stats” fact sheet, clearly demonstrating Biden’s border crisis just keeps getting worse.

The fact sheet highlights the newly released Customs & Border Protection’s (CBP) operational statistics for May 2021 indicating that the Biden Administration is breaking records with its reckless and dangerous border security policies. Last month, southwest border encounters reached the highest level in 21 years. Most notably, these policies have created significant security gaps, putting our national security on the line. In May, CBP encountered more than 40,000 people crossing into the U.S. from nations other than Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador—a 320% increase from January. While the Biden Administration remains disproportionately focused on the push factors in the Northern Triangle counties, thousands of distant migrants from countries around the world are exploiting these negligent border security policies.

These startling numbers come on the heels of Vice President Kamala Harris’ first international trip to Central America, in which she deliberately chose not to visit the southwest border to see the Administration’s self-made crisis for herself or hear from our frontline law enforcement working tirelessly to keep up with the surge of migrants entering the country.
