Rogers to Travel to Border with Trump
Top Homeland Republican to Travel with President to Calexico
WASHINGTON – Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), top Republican of the House Homeland Security Committee, announced that he will travel with President Donald Trump to Calexico, California tomorrow to see the southwest border firsthand.
“The president is serious about addressing the border crisis and I am too,” Rogers said. “Our law enforcement officers are being stretched dangerously thin as they deal with the crushing number of migrants arriving at our southwest border every day. This trip will provide an opportunity to see firsthand the deteriorating conditions on the ground and will help inform what action is needed from Congress to work with President Trump to address growing national security and humanitarian threats.”
Background:
- Last Monday, law enforcement apprehended the most migrants in a single day ever, with more than 4,000 migrants arriving at our southwest border. That is, until Tuesday when that record was broken again with more than 4,100 migrants arriving at the border.
- Unauthorized border crossings are at a 12-year high and it’s only getting worse.
