MEDIA ADVISORY: Higgins, Bishop Announce Joint Subcommittee Hearing on Consequences of Biden Admin Halting Border Wall Construction

July 14, 2023

Committee digs deeper in investigation into Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden’s failure to secure the Southwest border

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Clay Higgins (R-LA) and Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability Chairman Dan Bishop (R-NC) announced a joint hearing next Tuesday, July 18, at 2:00 PM ET to examine the effectiveness of the border barrier system and the effects of the Biden administration’s cancellation of border wall contracts on the safety and security of the American people.

“Physical barriers work quite well to deter and delay any form of criminal intent. This simple fact is undeniably true and the history of man is replete with evidence of that truth,” Congressman Higgins said. “The border wall system we will complete is a very daunting obstacle indeed, when one gazed upon it and contemplates overcoming it, but the wall is much more than a traditional physical barrier, it’s filled with technology that I’m not even at liberty to discuss. America demands and deserves effective border security, and House Republicans will hold the Biden administration accountable for failing to defend our nation’s sovereignty at the southern border.”

“President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have deliberately created our current border crisis. For over two years, they’ve made it even worse by refusing to give our Border Patrol agents an essential tool they need to regain operational control—a finished border wall,” Congressman Bishop said. “With over 1.5 million known gotaways at the Southwest border and a record number of American lives lost to fentanyl poisoning, this administration has chosen chaos and lawlessness over the safety of the American people and upholding our laws. Next week, Homeland Republicans will demand answers as we continue our oversight investigation into the reckless policies that have allowed cartels to seize operational control of our border.”
