WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY), chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology, announced a hearing for next Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET, to hear stakeholder perspectives on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) proposed rule to replace the Fire Brigades standard in order to provide workplace protections for all personnel who respond to emergencies as part of their regular duties.

“The health and safety of every American depends heavily on the effectiveness of local fire services and other emergency personnel. We appreciate OSHA’s efforts to safeguard firefighters and EMS workers by providing essential workplace protections, we must ensure that this proposed rule does not hinder the diverse delivery capabilities of these services in carrying out their crucial public safety mission,” Chairman D’Esposito said. “As the former Chief of the Island Park Fire Department, I am eager to hear input from key stakeholders on the proposed rule, as well as any concerns regarding increased requirements and costs for volunteer fire departments. I hope we can find a balanced approach that considers the needs of smaller departments and ensures that every fire brigade can meet the new standard.”
