MEDIA ADVISORY: Subcommittee Chairman Bishop Announces New Hearing on DHS Censorship Laundering Scheme

December 7, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability Chairman Dan Bishop (R-NC) announced a hearing on Wednesday, December 13, at 2:00 PM ET, to examine the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) censorship of protected speech.

Last month, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) and Subcommittee Chairman Bishop released new evidence of censorship laundering by DHS through its work with the “Election Integrity Partnership” (EIP), a group of four non-governmental organizations (NGOs) supposedly researching “mis-, dis-, and mal-information” (MDM). Source documents provided to the Committee by a member of the partnership, the Stanford Internet Observatory (SIO), show this effort ultimately was used by the federal government and Big Tech to silence speech and limit the exercise of First Amendment freedoms.

“The government should not be censoring the lawful speech of American citizens—period. They can try to absolve themselves by laundering their actions through NGO front groups, but the truth is clear,” Subcommittee Chairman Bishop said. “Our recent findings showcase the extent of the government’s coordinated campaign with Big Tech to silence dissent. Make no mistake, these discoveries only further our resolve to root out the Censorship Industrial Complex wherever it hides. This Subcommittee will not stop until we get answers for the American people on this Orwellian abuse of power and chart the best course forward to protect the First Amendment rights of all Americans.”
