Launches fourth phase of oversight investigation into the causes and consequences of unprecedented chaos at the Southwest border

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) announced a full Committee hearing next Wednesday, September 20, 10:00 AM ET, to examine the financial cost of the historic national security and humanitarian crisis at the Southwest border for border communities and cities across the country, and how President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ open-border policies have sparked massive misuse and waste of taxpayer dollars. This hearing launches the fourth phase of the Committee’s oversight investigation into the border crisis.

“For nearly three years, America’s taxpayers have felt the overwhelming financial burden of this unprecedented border crisis. From uncompensated emergency services provided by hospitals, to overwhelmed public education systems and increased law enforcement costs, communities across the country have had their resources stretched to the breaking point by an influx of illegal aliens, with absolutely no end in sight,” Chairman Green said. “The American people have been forced to pay a bill they never asked for. Next week’s hearing is a crucial opportunity to highlight these costs for both rural border towns and America’s largest cities and gather evidence of how Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden’s open-border policies and refusal to enforce the laws passed by Congress have run up the tab for American taxpayers.”
