Homeland Republicans Successfully Push Back on DHS’ Absurd Terrorist Privacy Waiver Demands

WASHINGTON, D.C.— After being told by two Department of Homeland Security (DHS) components that they would not brief Homeland Security Republicans on two significant terrorist plots planned on U.S. soil without a signed privacy waiver from the suspected terrorists, Homeland Republicans launched a comprehensive oversight effort to ensure accountability.

Last week, Homeland Security Committee Ranking Member John Katko (R-NY), Intelligence and Counterterrorism Subcommittee Ranking Member August Pfluger (R-TX), and Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas demanding to know why such a policy was instituted and expressing serious concern about perceived attempts to obstruct Congressional oversight efforts.

DHS subsequently communicated to Homeland Security Republicans they will back down from these requirements and set up the briefings for Committee members on the attempted terrorist plots by criminal non-citizens.

Homeland Republicans will continue to use any oversight tool at their disposal to hold this reckless administration accountable and we will not tolerate any attempts from DHS to stonewall Congress from conducting its Constitutionally-mandated responsibilities.
