Katko Statement on DHS IG Investigating Endeavors Contract

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement on the announcement that the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General will investigate the $87 million non-compete contract awarded to the nonprofit Endeavors for the temporary housing of migrants:

“I was pleased to see that the DHS Inspector General will be launching an investigation into the Biden Administration’s unclear and suspect process for selecting a contractor to place migrants in hotel rooms after illegally entering the country. The decision to award a massive, no-bid contract to the nonprofit Endeavors raised many questions including how an organization with no experience working with ICE could win a non-compete contract. The Committee has been sounding the alarm on this for several weeks, and this investigation is a critical first step in delivering the transparency the American people deserve.

“It’s bad enough that this Administration has created a self-inflicted border crisis. Its response should now be focused on reversing the misguided policies that got us here – not engaging in activity that raises significant ethical questions.”
