Rogers Statement on the 18th Anniversary of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks

WASHINGTON – Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released a statement commemorating the 18th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. We recognize the bravery of the first-responders who charged into action in service to their country and thank the brave Americans who have fought for our freedom in the years since. September 11 changed our nation forever.

“This anniversary provides an opportunity to renew our commitment to combat and prepare for the new and emerging threats that our nation faces today. International terrorism still poses real danger – al Qaeda and ISIS continue their calls for attacks on America. We also face new challenges from aggressive nation-states, transnational criminal organizations, cyberhackers, and domestic terrorists. Congress must ensure that the Department of Homeland Security can detect, prevent, and respond to these threats head on so that we never face a tragedy like 9/11 ever again.”
