Rogers Statement on California Synagogue Shooting

WASHINGTON – Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, today released a statement following reports of a shooting at a synagogue near San Diego:

“Attacks on places of worship have absolutely no place in America, especially during the celebratory time of Passover. I strongly condemn this act of violence.

“Today’s attack reflects an unfortunate new reality: places of worship are increasingly targets for terrorists and extremists both at home and abroad. This is the second attack on an American synagogue in the last six months and comes just days after Christians were targeted in Sri Lanka, and just weeks after shootings at mosques in New Zealand.

“I will continue to monitor the situation in California and I am thankful for the heroic actions of an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol Agent in preventing more violence. My prayers are with those affected by this act of hate.”
