Media Contact: (202) 226-8417

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, announced the following upcoming Committee events:

Thursday, September 8

Full Committee Hearing: The Attacks of September 11th: Where are We Today

10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, in 311 Cannon House Office Building

Full Committee

Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman

The Honorable Lee Hamilton
Former Vice-Chairman
National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States

The Honorable Tom J. Ridge
Former Secretary of Homeland Security

Chairman King on the hearing:  “The 10th anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks of 9/11 provides an ideal opportunity for the Committee to take a look back at the past 10 years and a look ahead to the future.  Through the testimony of 9/11 Commission Co-chair Lee Hamilton and former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, the Committee will get a better picture of the progress that we have made as a nation in securing our homeland since the horrific attacks of 9/11.  The hearing will also provide an opportunity for the Committee to inquire about the numerous gaps that still exist.  Lee Hamilton, along with fellow 9/11 Commission Co-chair Tom Kean, has just published an insightful 9/11 Report Card, in which they highlight a number of those shortcomings, including the federal government’s failure to reallocate the D Block portion of the radio spectrum to public safety and the ‘dysfunctional’ congressional oversight of the government’s homeland security functions.  This Report Card and its findings will certainly be a major point of interest for the Committee.  I look forward to what I know will be a fruitful discussion with these two esteemed witnesses.”
