WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House Homeland Security Committee will hold the following hearing tomorrow.

TUESDAY, September 10 at 10:00 a.m.
Committee on Homeland Security
Crisis in Syria: Implications for Homeland Security
311 Cannon House Office Building
Witnesses Include:

·         The Honorable Christopher Shays, Former Representative in Congress from the 4th District of Connecticut
·         Major General Robert H. Scales, Jr. (Ret. U.S. Army) Former Commandant of the US Army War College
·         Mr. Thomas Joscelyn, Senior Fellow, Foundation for the Defense of Democracies and Senior Editor, Long War Journal
·         Dr. Stephen Biddle, Adjunct Senior Fellow for Defense Policy, Council on Foreign Relations

Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) on the hearing: “In light of the atrocities witnessed in Syria, today our nation faces difficult choices. We must determine how the civil war in Syria affects our national security interests, and the ramifications of our action or inaction in the Syrian conflict. Ultimately, without an international coalition or a clear military objective, sending 'warning' shots may risk entangling the U.S. in a war where a rogue regime is fighting a rebel force infiltrated by extremists who count the U.S. as their enemy. Such an action will not secure Assad's deadly chemical weapons, which could end up in the hands of al Qaeda.

“This hearing will give us an opportunity to examine both the regime and the rebels in this war, and to hear from experts on the implications for homeland security of approving or denying the President's request for military intervention in Syria.”
