NEXT WEEK: Chairwoman Slotkin to Hold Michigan Field Hearing on Combating Ransomware
(WASHINGTON) – On Tuesday, June 28th, the Committee on Homeland Security’s Intelligence & Counterterrorism Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), will hold a field hearing in Michigan to examine the growing cyber threats communities, businesses, and organizations across the United States face due to the proliferation of ransomware. Ransomware attacks have steadily increased, targeting not just major corporations but also small businesses, schools, libraries, law enforcement, and local governments. As reliance on digital technology increases, ransomware attacks will continue to be an increasingly damaging tool for malicious actors to undermine the integrity of our social and economic infrastructure.
This hearing will also be an opportunity to hear from witnesses from the Federal government and the State of Michigan about the unique threat ransomware poses to communities large and small. Witnesses will also discuss resources both at the State and Federal level for combating ransomware attacks, and how local and State government entities cooperate with the Federal government in this endeavor.
