Katko, McCaul: Biden Admin Not Reimplementing MPP in Good Faith

WASHINGTON, DC— Rep. John Katko (R-NY), lead Republican of the House Committee on Homeland Security, and Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), lead Republican of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs issued the following statement on the court-ordered reimplementation of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), or “Remain in Mexico” policy.

“Make no mistake, President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have every intention of terminating the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) at the first chance they get. After issuing numerous memos underscoring its intention to abolish MPP, the Biden administration’s only reason for reimplementing the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy are court orders. The administration should not receive credit for ‘restarting’ this necessary program as they have not done so in good faith nor made meaningful attempts at addressing the border crisis they created. Rather, the administration’s open-border agenda and refusal to implement common-sense policies continue worsening the crisis at the border. Nothing short of a fully-reimplemented and enforced MPP in conjunction with Title 42, physical barriers, and more resources for border patrol and our international partners can fix the border crisis at this point.”
