Homeland Republicans Outline Plan to Counter China Threat to the Homeland

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Rep. John Katko (R-NY), lead Republican of the House Homeland Security Committee, continues to highlight the great powers’ competition between the United States and China and how the homeland security mission plays a more critical role than ever.

As Ranking Member Katko has called out, and the U.S.-China meeting in Alaska has further demonstrated, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will be the greatest threat to U.S. interests and economic security for the next 50 years. House Homeland Republicans are highlighting those threats to our homeland and laying out their plan for addressing them in a meaningful way.

“For more than a month now, I have been urging the Biden Administration to step up and lead in calling out China’s genocide of the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang province starting with a boycott of U.S. participation in the Beijing 2022 Olympic games,” said Ranking Member Katko. “I am glad to see the Administration working with our allies and partners to finally do so. The sanctions announced today are but the first step in what must be a clear-eyed and strong condemnation of Chinese malfeasance in the global community.”
