The Persistent Threat: al Qaeda’s Evolution and Resilience

July 13, 2017 10:00 AM | HOUSE CAPITOL VISITOR CENTER (HVC) ROOM 210

This hearing will reexamine the continued threat posed by al Qaeda, and its efforts to once again take leadership of the global jihadist movement, as the caliphate of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria faces sustained pressure by US and coalition forces. The rise of a new generation al Qaeda leadership, and a renewed focus on its affiliate network ensures al Qaeda will remain a long-term threat to US Homeland Security. The Subcommittee will focus on how the network has evolved in recent years and how Congress and the new Administration can respond.
