Secretary Janet Napolitano to Testify before Homeland Security Committee on President’s FY 2013 Budget Request -- TOMORROW
Washington, D.C. – The House Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), will hold a hearing on the President’s budget proposal entitled “An Examination of the President's FY 2013 Budget Request for the Department of Homeland Security” tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in Room 311 Cannon House Office Building.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will be the sole witness at the hearing to examine President Obama’s $39.5 billion FY 2013 budget request for the Department of Homeland Security. (An additional $5.5 billion for the Disaster Relief Fund is provided separately, per the Budget Control Act of 2011.) On Monday, the President sent his request to Congress. The request would result in relatively level funding from the $39.6 billion in DHS funding enacted by Congress for FY 2012.

King said: “This hearing will be an opportunity for the Members of our Committee to question Secretary Napolitano about the specifics of President Obama’s proposed 2013 budget, which many in Congress are still reviewing. The Homeland Security Committee will work to ensure that the President’s 2013 funding request allocates limited resources in an efficient and effective manner. During my time questioning the Secretary, I intend to stress the importance of the Administration continuing to allocate vital homeland security grant funds based on risk. It is critical that we ensure that homeland security grant dollars are focused on the areas most at risk of terror attack - areas such as the New York City-Long Island region, still the top target of al-Qaeda, its affiliates, and adherents.”
When: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012
